Install ServiceOptimizer Before you Start
Before starting the installation of ServiceOptimizer there are a few things to take note of and prepare.
Check Pre-requisites
System Administrator
Database
It is assumed the DBA will install the database and, as such, has familiarity with the RDBMS in use.
Prepare for Installation
Oracle Instance
To install the ServiceOptimizer Oracle database user the following information is required:
Oracle username and password for ServiceScheduling
Sys password
System password
UNIX Accounts
FOR UNIX ONLY
It is assumed that the software will be installed under one (UNIX) user account and used by one or more other (UNIX) user accounts. In explanations the former account is refered to as spowner and the latter as spuser. The actual account names chosen may differ. If required, spowner and spuser may be the same account.
These accounts must be set up prior to installation and will need to be created from the root login
Configuration files
Before running ServiceOptimizer, a number of files need to be edited to configure the environment (e.g. .profile, serv_pow.ini). These .ini files are described in ServiceOptimizer Administration Guide and in the Appendices.
Each ServiceScheduling release has a unique release number - the version number of that particular release. This is represented in pathnames etc. as <vno>.
Unpacking
Check the following deliverables exist for a new installation.
The software is delivered on a DVD. The DVD will have 3 directories – client, doc and server.
/client | has a number of sub-directories depending upon your target platform, for example: /client containing an Install file for the Gantt |
/server | contains either ServiceOptimizer installation file and (or a single tar file which contains) all the server binaries, data files and scripts. |
Database Export/Backup File
If this is a first time installation, you will also require a database export/backup file which will be supplied by your ServicePower consultant.
Travel Matrix
If you require a Travel Matrix this will be shipped on a separate DVD
Check the following exist for an upgrade installation
An upgrade may be a full release or a subset of a full release, in which case see above. The Release Notice accompanying the release will make this clear.
