Gantt Special Periods SOAP APIs

The pages listed below describe the ServiceOptimizer public SOAP APIs that relate to the management of Gantt Special Periods.

Special Periods

Special periods provide the ability for the system to create marked areas against employees on the Gantt so that the Gantt user can then manage other jobs with respect to those areas.

Possible business uses of special periods include, but are not limited to, the delineation of on‑call periods so that schedule managers are aware of who is on call and when, or where operative rest periods during the working day need to be made visible and the organisation does not wish to use the standard ServiceScheduling breaks functionality (for example, because of the ad hoc nature with which rest periods are taken in their business scenario).

It should be noted that the scenarios highlighted above are intended only to be image provoking examples of special period usage, whose purpose is to aid an understanding of the more general business need. There is no intended implication that these indicate the specific or only business processes for which special periods might be used.

Whatever business scenarios special periods are used to support in any given organisation, the significance of a special period would be purely in the mind of managers who understand the purpose for which that special period had been created.

The existence of special periods have no effect whatsoever on the automatic scheduling or processing of schedulable Items by ServiceScheduling.
