Before starting the installation of ServiceOptimizer there are a few things to take note of and prepare.

Check Pre-requisites

Tip
Check the pre-requisites listed in the ServiceOptimizer Pre-Requisites are in place. If a pre-requisite is not in place then the installation or subsequent running might fail.
Note
titleSystem Administrator
It is assumed the installer is the System Administrator and, as such, has familiarity with basic computer and Operating System procedures, either UNIX or WINDOWS, (e.g. how to log on, how to examine and edit files, how to execute programs, etc.).
Note
titleDatabase

It is assumed the DBA will install the database and, as such, has familiarity with the RDBMS in use.

Prepare for Installation

Tip
titleOracle Instance

To install the ServiceOptimizer Oracle database user the following information is required:

Oracle username and password for ServiceScheduling
 Sys password
 System password

Tip
titleUNIX Accounts

FOR UNIX ONLY

It is assumed that the software will be installed under one (UNIX) user account and used by one or more other (UNIX) user accounts. In explanations the former account is refered to as spowner and the latter as spuser. The actual account names chosen may differ. If required, spowner and spuser may be the same account.

These accounts must be set up prior to installation and will need to be created from the root login

Tip
titleConfiguration files

Before running ServiceOptimizer, a number of files need to be edited to configure the environment (e.g. .profile, serv_pow.ini). These .ini files are described in ServiceOptimizer Administration Guide and in the Appendices.

Note

Each ServiceScheduling release has a unique release number - the version number of that particular release. This is represented in pathnames etc. as <vno>.

Unpacking

Tip

The software is delivered on a DVD. The DVD will have 3 directories – client, doc and server.

titleCheck the following exist for an upgrade installation
